Postcard FAQs

Q. Is there a limit on wording?
Common sense and good readability are the only guidelines. When sketching orders for Wallet size, be sure you account for the overall reduction. The simplest way is to trace your photo on to a blank sheet of paper-- draw the outside dimension of the print and outline people and background features.

Distinguish between Information, usually best accomplished by your prayer letters, and Motivation - the job of a good prayer card. If you're overcrowded, you may have crossed the line and it's time to edit.

Q. What about type faces and size of lettering?
Most people prefer to leave type choices up to us. If you like, you may refer to any of the samples shown in this brochure, or include a sample font clipping. (Font names vary so much that a printed sample is a must.) If you've seen a sample of a card you like, send it along (or a photocopy) for us to match the layout or other preferences.

Q. Can you use my layout?
We welcome your layout no matter how rough or detailed it may be; clearly readable pencil sketches or laser print are equally acceptable. We have hundreds of fonts available!

All special accents on a standard Roman character set are available-mark what you need clearly. Call to discuss foreign language needs.

Q. What kind of paper do you use?
POSTcards are printed on a 13 pt. card stock that has a coated glossy front. They are very similar to postcards you would buy on vacation.

Q. What sizes are available?
Business Card - 2x3.5", Wallet- 2.5"x3.5"; Regular size is 3.5"x5"; Jumbo is 4"x6", Bookmark is 2.5x7", Rack Card is 4x9". Two- and three-panel formats include a perforated tear-off response card.
(Two- and three-panel cards are scored/perforated and shipped flat for you to fold.) Other sizes can be provided on request. Most sizes fit in a regular #10 business envelope (4-1/8"x 9-1/2").

Q. Can you crop my photo?
Yes - unlimited zoom or cropping is available, however excessive "zoom-in" will result in lost clarity!

Q. Do you have our mission's logo?
After many years making prayer cards, we probably do! But the list is constantly changing, so send a sample if in doubt. Your official mission logo is always free. NOTE: Address is NOT included as part of any logo; if you indicate "Logo Here" we use the emblem only, sized at our discretion. Addresses must be written out fully as they are to appear.

Click here for our complete list of mission logos.

Q. Do you have a map of where I'll be serving?
We have computer maps of every part of the globe! For precise location of obscure points, include a clear sketch. We try to keep current with political boundary changes, but it's a good idea to show us what you have in mind if in doubt.

TIP: Some country maps don't add much to a prayer card. If it's a common location, the name may be just as meaningful as a map. Consider using the geography lesson in your prayer letter- it might help unclutter your prayer card.

Q. Will I get to see a proof?
Yes - a full-color online proof will be posted about three business days after we receive your order, and the "clock stops" while we await you approval.

Q. Will I get my photo and/or negative back?
Yes - all photos and negatives you provide will be returned upon completion of your order.

Q. I can't decide -- will you choose from two photos?
We're glad to make the final photo choice if you send several photos for our consideration. Indicate your preferences and include layout ideas for each. We'll be glad to call and discuss your options once we receive everything.

Q: I'm no graphic designer - what should my sketch look like?
One of the strengths of our service has been our ability to take the roughest sketch our customers can provide, decipher it and render an attractive finished product without requiring fine-tuned, detailed planning. As long as your sketch is clearly readable, we'll be glad to take the necessary liberty with it and add the "Creative Plus Touch".

If your photo is basically what you're happy with "as-is", simply trace it onto a blank sheet of paper, outlining the people positions and other scenery, etc. in the photo. Then pencil in the words, logo, map etc.as rough as you like to give us an idea where you think things should go. You can even just write all the information on a separate sheet of paper and turn us loose to make it beautiful. OR you can scan in your photo, create a masterpiece on your computer and send us a color ink-jet proof. Either is fine, or anywhere in between.

Feel free to phone us if your file format might be compatible for us to work from. We have an extensive library of type faces, and can come up with a close match to most fonts you may request. Except in the special case of non-Roman scripts, we are not able to use your provided layout as "camera-ready" copy.

Q. What should I send you my photo?
We love to work from Digital photos! This is the fastest easiest method to submit your order. Just use our online order form.

If you're sending us photos and/or negatives, protect prints for mailing with cardboard -click here for a photo mailing label. Studio portraits require a copyright release form. (Click here to get a copyright release form.) Call to discuss with us if you have a slide, transparency, or any negative size other than 35mm or APS. Make sure you indicate the correct FRAME NUMBER for any negative we are to use. All prints or film provided will be returned following completion of your order.

Q. How long does it take to print my cards?
Actual production time from your proof approval is 4-5 weeks. A rush service of $75 saves about one week, but no delivery guarantees are possible for postcards as they are not produced at our NC facility. UPS Next-Day and 2-Day service are also available.
